The North Carolina Civil War 150 blog is a space for collecting all news, events and observances related to the American Civil War Sesquicentennial commemoration at the State Archives, with additional information from other N.C. Department of Cultural Resources observances.
The blog features “First Wednesdays,” a series that presents a unique document from the collections of the State Archives on the first Wednesday of each month and discusses how that archival document relates to other events in this state during the war.
On the blog you can read excerpts from Civil War diaries and journals, and you can view public documents and photographs and learn the stories behind them.
The blog also contains: a timeline of North Carolina and national events beginning in 1860; links to other Civil War Web sites; the Digital Civil War Collection, which hosts digitized Civil War materials from the State Library of North Carolina and the State Archives; and the online exhibit "Find Your Civil War Ancestors," describing the research methods Archives staff members used to track their Civil War ancestors.
